Truffle Therapy Serum

Filed under: Skincare — moonstruckinjersey @ 6:43 PM

I love trying new product – who doesn’t?!  There are so many potions available, some of them “speak” to you and others do not.  I have been lucky enough to find numerous products that I enjoy and I like to rotate them as I feel this keeps my skin on it’s toes.

One of my newest finds is Truffle Serum by Skin & Co.

a254716.001

This blend was created  in 1953 by Giuseppina Balestra and sold in her luxury boutique.  It became an instant hit with Hollywood super stars filming in Rome.  60 years later her grandson, Gabriel Balestra, working with one of Italy’s oldest universities, brought his grandmother’s formulas into today’s world.  The truffles are grown on the family’s farms in Umbria and they are the base of the truffle infused skincare.

I received two samples during the holidays and I was just about out of the serum I had been using, so I decided to give it a try with my evening skincare routine.  It felt like velvet on the skin and absorbed instantly.  The smell was delicious and when I got up the next morning, my skin was radiant.  I have been blessed with great skin, but radiant was not a word I would have ever used to describe it – until now.  Needless to say, I have been using it ever since.

My skin feels soft and the texture is very even, which allows make up (need to disclose that my foundation is a tinted moisturizer) to go on flawlessly.  I also use it on my neck before I put on a neck cream.  A moisturized neck is a younger looking neck, no matter what your age.

This is a more expensive product, but very little goes a long way.

The Italians do everything better, but of course, I am prejudice!

The Bella Lucrezia

Filed under: Musings — moonstruckinjersey @ 8:00 AM

Posted by my husband June 24, 2013 after we lost Lucrezia, our bella Zia, unexpectedly the night before.

Zia – I never liked you…

– I didn’t love you when I first heard about you while standing in the airport parking garage in Orlando as Linda Salvatore Petersen is telling me, ‘if you don’t want her, you can take her back.
– I did not love you as I was repulsed by the staple stitches that you had on your belly…bearing grim witness to the abused life you were rescued from
– I did not love you as you were excited to see me every time I came home from a trip
– I did not love you when we would lay together on the living room rug in front of the fireplace where you roasted yourself on cold Winter nights
– I did not love you when we lived in NYC in the Eastgate Hotel and you would not “go” for the whole 5 days!
– I did not love you as you loved the neighborhood kids
– I did not love you as you loved our other four legged children
– I did not love you as you loved the Looch and helped him live longer than anyone expected
– I did not love you for loving our grandchildren
– I did not love you as you would jump in bed with me on a Sunday morning to become my own personal living body pillow
-I did not love you for being the best friend of the woman I love above all else on this earth and being the embodiment of my love for her when I was gone.
– I did not love you when I was holding you on my legs on the floor in the kitchen on Saturday and brushing your teeth (you are so good)
– I did not love you as I was trying to get you to get up last night from  laying in the corner
– I did not love you as I held you close on the floor in the bedroom last night and whispered sweet nothings in your ear before we left for the hospital
– I did not love you as I held you and said thank you and goodbye

But OMG, I love you so much right now that it hurts…

My pretty Zia….

Donate!

Short hair has come back into style in the last year and the Spring 2013 runway shows have brought it home.  So, if you’re bored out of your mind with your long locks, find a stylist who knows how to cut short hair (not every stylist knows how to cut short hair and the cut WILL tell!) and rock it.

Now, if you have 6″ or more of hair, do something productive with it and donate it.

Weekend Mani

This weekend’s  OPI liquid sand polish manicure is STAY THE NIGHT.

Image

I used my favorite base coat, two coats of STAY THE NIGHT and a top coat, which is optional.  The dry time on these liquid sand polishes is fairly quick and they DO NOT dry smooth and glossy, but textured and matte ( even if you do choose to use a top coat).

This color is a great black, red mix with lots of glitter that looks amazing in sunlight, but not so over the top indoors.  The glitter gives these polishes long wear time.

The liquid sand collections are definitely different, but I do not think you will be disappointed.

I am obsessed with OPI’s liquid sand collections and  I own almost every color.  Now it is just a matter of using them all.

So, for Mother’s Day weekend I chose GET YOUR NUMBER and it is a perfect Spring/Summer color.  The liquid sand wears really, really well and I get 5-6 days with no special maintenance.

I have on a base coat , two coats of GET YOUR NUMBER and a top coat, but the top coat is not necessary – just my preference.

LOVE!

I have a Moroccan cookbook coming from Williams Sonoma , but would like to know how I can use it for everyday meals.

Do any of you use a tagine to cook and will you share a favorite recipe?

Spring Cleaning

Spring is here and more then likely you will be tackling your closet soon.  Staying in that cleaning mode, move right on to clean and organize your make up drawer, closet, basket, box – wherever it is you have all your make up and skin care.  Use the same rule that most of us use, or should use, when cleaning and organizing our closets.  If it has not be worn in a year donate it and if the make up/skin care has not been used in a year, trash it.

We all know this, but it is important to review every once in a while………….

Toss your mascara every three months.  Bacteria grows quickly within the tube and if you pump the brush, it happens even quicker.

Pencil eyeliners are the best because they stay fairly clean as you sharpen the points.  If you use gel eyeliners the brush should be washed often.  Sponges should be washed every week and replaced every month and the usual recommendation is to wash all brushes every two months.  I wash my brushes once a week.  Take them in the shower and use a little shampoo or hair cleansing cream. Easy.

Water based foundations should be tossed after a year as the water allows bacteria to grow in the bottle.  Oil based foundations will last up to 18 months.

Powders will last for 2-3 years, but keep those brushes and fingers clean.

Skin care should be trashed after 2 years, especially any jars.  Anything that fingers touch can develop bacteria very quickly.

Lipstick, lip gloss and lip pencils are good for about 3 years.  However, lip product and eye product should be tossed if worn during an illness – strep or pink eye for example.

Nail polishes will last 2-3 years if the necks of the bottles are kept clean so that the caps fit tightly and they are stored in a dark, cool place.

Sunscreen for face or body should have an expiration date on the box.

Anything that smells – get rid of.

Easy peasy.

Peace
